Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)

Osteopathic physicians use a holistic approach to treat the entire person rather than just the symptoms. This includes traditional medical evaluations and treatments as well as physical treatments such as Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT).  As a Board Certified Doctor of Osteopathic medicine, Dr. Sellars also treats his patients in-office using Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy (OMT). OMT involves physician diagnosis and manual treatments to aid and accelerate healing.

Sports Medicine Injury

As a Sports Medicine Expert, Dr. Sellars evaluates and treats all orthopedic conditions. He may combine diagnostic imaging, OMT, in-office procedures and physical therapy plans as part of your comprehensive treatment.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)

After evaluating you, Dr. Sellars may suggest treating you with OMT right in the office to give you immediate pain relief. Osteopathic manipulation treatment (OMT) is used to help correct structural imbalances in your body, improve circulation and relieve pain.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma enhances the body's ability to heal. When appropriate, it may be used to treat conditions such as osteoarthritis pain, rotator cuff strain/tear, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, achilles tendonitis, etc.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Dr. Sellars utilizes Musculoskeletal ultrasound to help diagnose and treat a range of injuries and chronic conditions including joint problems, tendinitis, bursitis and tears. Ultrasound can be helpful to improve accuracy and precision of many injections.

Individualized Rehab Plans and Prescriptions

At Sports Medicine Consulting, we write individualized prescriptions for rehabilitation with the goal of getting every patient better by focusing on their specific needs. We have an extensive referral base of physical therapists, chiropractors, nutritionists and other healthcare professionals to help maximize your success in getting back to the sport and active lifestyle you love!

Cortisone Injections

Cortisone Injections involve injecting a small amount of anti-inflammatory medication (corticosteroids) into your affected injury site. Dr. Sellars performs ultrasound guided Cortisone injections as needed.

Trigger Point Injections

Trigger points are painful areas or knots that cause radiating pain of muscle and myofascial tissue that form when muscles are irritated, injured or tense. Dr. Sellars may suggest a trigger point injection after evaluating your injury site for myofascial pain and tension. By injecting a local anesthetic into the affected area, the trigger point is alleviated and pain relief is almost immediate.

Concussion Management

Navigating the aftermath of a concussion is often difficult. Concussions can lead to neck pain, migraines, vestibular issues and other post-concussive symptoms. Dr. Sellars is trained in diagnosing, evaluating and managing concussions and their side effects.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is an alternative regenerative medicine injection technique used to aid healing and relieve pain. Dr. Sellars is one of the few physicians in Georgia to offer this treatment. During Prolotherapy, a small amount of natural irritan is injected into your injury site to jumpstart the body’s natural healing abilities. Prolotherapy is known for improving joint and ligament laxity and providing pain relief and restored strength for chronic injuries.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Disorders

Dr. Sellars is especially equipped to treat Ehlers Danlos Syndrome using expert orthopedic diagnostics and regenerative medicine.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a genetic connective tissue disorder that can cause pain, ligament laxity and frequent sports injuries.

Living with EDS is difficult because it it so commonly misdiagnosed and misunderstood by the medical community. It can be hard to find an EDS aware doctor, and patients with EDS may not be candidates for surgery due to increased risk and delayed healing.

At Sports Medicine Consulting, we can offer non-surgical, functional solutions to chronic daily pain that hypermobile patients suffer with every day.

As a osteopathic sports medicine physician, Dr Sellars has an increased awareness of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and common related injuries.

He currently uses treatments including prolotherapy, osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), myofascial release, craniosacral therapy/treatment and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to address chronic pain in his EDS patients.
